Primary Retroperitoneal Ganglioneuroma

Abstract
A case of a 19-year-old Korean male having primary retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma, which was pathologically benign and well encapsulated, was presented in detail. The patient complained of back pain, occipital headache and large palpable mass in the right abdomen. After various diagnostic measures including I.V.P. and Barium Enema, we suspected masses to be retroperi-toneal tumor. Exploratory laparotomy for gross total removal of the tumor was done. Tumors arising from the sympathetic nervous system that may occur in retoperitoneal area are the ganglioneuroma, ganglioneuroblastoma and neuroblastoma. Grossly, grayish white well encap-sulated solid mass measuring 14 X 10 X 6 cm. in size. Available literatures were reviewed with a discussion regarding the pathogenesis, incidence, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
